CAMP DESCRIPTIONS

Please note, all of our camps are designed as 4-day camps. In the 4-day camps we introduce (beginning courts) or enhance (intermediate-advanced courts) all the individual skills on the first two days and also introduce skill appropriate concepts of team offense and team defense. Day 3 is usually built towards improving the individual skills within a team setting, and Day 4 is usually game play.

  • For the 3 day All Skills camps we spend less time on 6 vs 6 game play and more time on skill improvement and small-squad skills (triples, 4 on 4, etc.).
  • For the 3 day Advanced Skills camp we spend less time on individual skill drills and more time on game play. When we work individual skills, we do so primarily within the team framework.
  • For the 2 day Basic Skills camp we spend most of the time introducing and improving the individual skills and all game play is small-group.
  • For the 2-day Advanced Skills Camp we spend a little time on individual skills and a lot of time on team skills,

ALL SKILLS CAMPS:

These camps are for players of any skill level entering 5th-9th grades this Fall. Each camp has a different age range depending on available courts. In the all skills camps, all players will be grouped by age and skill.  It is most important to have players of similar skill on the same court in order to keep each court moving at the proper pace.

These full-day camps spend a great deal of time on individual skill development. We will take each of the basic skills in volleyball and teach the athletes how we play the game. The ultimate goal is for each athlete to dramatically improve their level of play and their appreciation for the sport of volleyball. Areas that are heavily emphasized are ball control, movement, and attack and blocking footwork. There will also be time spent on basic concepts of team defense, serve-receive offense, and transition defense/offense. Included also are brief forums on various subjects including club volleyball, goal-setting, and when applicable college playing opportunities.  All campers are given a camp notebook with skill information and resources for future benefit. This is a great camp for those new to volleyball AND those looking to improve in their skills. By grouping campers by their skill level and running skill-appropriate drills, even the advanced players can reap the benefits of our All Skill Camps.

ADVANCED CAMPS:

Our advanced camps are reserved for experienced High School athletes who will be in the 9th through 12th grades this Fall. If you are a first time volleyball player in the 9-12th grade, please register for an all-skills camp.

Advanced Camps are our most popular camps for High School-aged Athletes. This camp is designed to give varsity and JV-level athletes some advanced training they can't get at an all-skills camp. Also, the overall level of play should be greatly increased because it is a high school only camp. The camp will concentrate on individual skill-building through advanced skill drills and position tutoring. The afternoons feature a lot of scrimmage-style drills, so experience is a must for success in this camp.  This camp spends about 50% of the time on team-related skill improvement — exactly what high school athletes need to stay sharp over the summer. Campers will spend morning sessions on individual skill development and afternoon sessions will emphasize game-play and team strategies. An additional feature of this camp will be discussions on college recruiting.

SELECT CAMPS:

Our select camp is for exceptional varsity-level High School athletes who will be in the 9th through 12th grade this Fall. There is limited space in the camp as it is held at the NW Juniors 2-court practice facility.  We can only accept 30 athletes in this camp. All elite athletes with club experience are encouraged to register. We reserve the right to limit enrollment by position. This Camp runs 3 days.

This is our most popular camps for High School-aged Athletes. This camp is designed to give select/serious athletes some advanced training before the start of their high school seasons. Also, the overall level of play should be greatly increased because it is a high school/varsity only camp. This camp is similar to the individual skill camps, only it is designed for the advanced volleyball player. The camp will concentrate on individual skill-building through tutoring, leadership skills, and give campers an opportunity to work with the NW Juniors Elite VBC coaching staff. There will be a lot of scrimmage-style drills to get the athletes sharp before the start of the season. This camp spends over 60% of the time on team-related skill improvement — exactly what the top high school athlete needs to get a jump on their season. Campers will spend morning sessions on individual skill development and afternoon sessions will emphasize game-play and team strategies. An additional feature of this camp will be discussions on college recruiting and off-season training.

CAMP DETAILS

How is it Organized?

On the first session of camp all players will participate in brief testing and skill-work. Using the results, campers will be placed in an appropriate skill group. This skill group will progress through all volleyball skills and team skills together.  We strive to keep a 8-10 to 1 player to coach ratio for all of our camps.  Please note that these are not OVERNIGHT CAMPS.

What’s the Difference?  The best way we can describe the difference between the three camp formats is this way:

  • Our Basic All Skills Camps: They are about 65% basic skills instruction and drills; 35% game-like instruction.  They are good for players of all skill levels and our most popular camps.

  • Our Advance Skills Camps: They are about 50% basic skills instruction and drills; 50% game-like and are good for high school players that have a mastery of the basic skills and a good understanding of team concepts.

  • Our Select Camps, regardless of age range are Advanced/Elite Camps. Primarily for club players and candidates for our National Teams.  They are about 40% skill development and 60% live-game play.

All camps offer a great curriculum, but differ in the amount of time spent on basic skill instruction and versus game instruction and game play.  Please be realistic in the assessment of your athlete’s skill level so that they can benefit the most from whichever camp you enroll them in.
